Jacobus P. Petzer
Jacobus P. Petzer was born in South Africa in 1974. He received the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and the Ph.D. degree from the North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa, in 1996 and 2002, respectively. In 1999, he became a Research Associate at Virginia Polytechnic University, Blacksburg, Va, USA and in 2002 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md, USA. In 2004, he joined the faculty of the School of Pharmacy at the North-West University where he is presently an Associate Professor. He mainly focuses on drug design, specifically the design of novel reversible inhibitors of the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO) and antagonists of the adenosine A2A receptor. He is also interested in the MAO substrate properties of novel structural analogues of the proneurotoxin MPTP.
