Eithne Dempsey was employed as an EU-Funded Postdoctoral Fellow at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, with an industrial placement at Ciba, Basel, Switzerland, after receiving a Ph.D. degree in electrochemistry from DCU (1993). She took up a lecturing post in physical/analytical chemistry at ITT Dublin in September 1995 and has contributed to teaching programs in applied chemistry, bioanalysis, and pharmaceutical science at levels 6, 7, and 8. Since 1997, she has been successful in the acquisition of M.S., Ph.D., and postdoctoral research fundings, enabling the establishment of the Centre for Research in Electroanalytical Technologies (CREATE) in 2004. Dempsey currently coordinates this institute-designated center. Dempsey's research interests include electroanalytical methods, biosensor technology as applied to animal and human health, electrochemical ELISA and immunodiagnostics, environmental analysis, microdialysis, nanofabrication, nanomaterials (synthesis and characterization), and conducting polymers. She is a Chartered Chemist, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (former Vice Chair of the Analytical Division, Ireland Section), and a Member of the International Society for Electrochemistry (ISE), the American Chemical Society (ACS), Electrochemical Society (ECS), Irish Learning Technology Association, and NanoNet Ireland.
