Joaquim Carneiro received Ph.D. (Doctorate) degree in mechanical engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), Porto, Portugal, in June 2000, M.S. degree in physics and chemistry, University of Minho (UMinho), Braga, Portugal, in July 1995, and degree in physics and chemistry, University of Minho (UMinho), Portugal, in June 1990. Carneiro academic career (teaching and scientific research) started at the University of Minho in 1992. At the present time, Carneiro is Director of the Department for Research Policy and Postgraduation at Academy of Angola National Combustible Society (SONANGOL), since January 2015; Assistant Professor with Definitive Nomination in Materials Physics, University of Minho (since July 2000); and Associate Professor (permanent position) at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, China (since May 2013). Carneiro areas of expertise are material science and nanotechnology; functionalized nanoscale and nanostructured materials and surfaces; development and characterization of new photocatalytic materials (thin films and/or nanoparticles) with self-cleaning, antifogging, air-purifying, and anti-antibacterial functions; study of the photocatalytic degradation of petroleum derivatives; structure and surface characterization by electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM); and thin films production by magnetron sputtering technique.
