Duncan Forbes

Duncan Forbes obtained his B.S. degree (with honors) from the University of
Canterbury, New Zealand, in 1985, and his Ph.D. degree from the University
of Cambridge, UK, in 1992. After a Postdoctoral position at
the University of California, Santa Cruz, from 1992 to 1997, he was
a Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, UK, until
2000, when he took up a staff position at Swinburne University, Australia.
He is now a Full Professor at Swinburne and Deputy Director of
the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing. In 2004 he
received the University's Researcher of the Year Award.
Professor Forbes has held various short term Visiting Professorships. He has
served on various national and international committees, and
organised several international astronomy conferences. His
research interests include globular clusters, galaxy formation
and evolution, and galaxies in low-density environments. He is a
Fellow of the Astronomical Society of Australia and the
International Astronomical Union.
