P. G. Shields
Peter G. Shields is currently a Tenured Professor at the Departments of Oncology and Medicine, theInterim-Academic Chair of the Department of Medicine, and the Deputy Director of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, all at the Georgetown University. Dr. Shields also is the Vice Chair of the Department of Oncology. He was the Associate Director for Cancer Control and Population Sciences and a Program Leader for Cancer Genetics and Epidemiology in the Cancer Center, until 2007. Dr. Shields’ focus of research is on gene-environment interactions for cancer risk. The laboratory component of his research develops new biomarkers of cancer risk related to tobacco, diet, and lifestyle, while his epidemiological component accrues special populations. Dr. Shields has over 140 peer-reviewed publications, including in high profile journals. He serves, or has served, on Editorial Boards of major journals such as Carcinogenesis, Molecular Carcinogenesis and Cancer, Epidemiology, Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention.
