Currently, Sala is a Postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Neurobiology, Department of Surgery and Interdisciplinary Medicine, University of Milano Bicocca. The research activity of Dr. Sala has been focusing on the study of pathogenetic mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases (especially amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease). In particular, she has been studying the contribute of excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and, more recently, autophagic-lysosomal pathway in neuronal cell death using ex vivo peripheral cells from patients and in vitro models of diseases.
