Gessica Sala obtained the Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from the University of Milano Bicocca, Milan, Italy, in January 2005. In May 1999, Sala has taken the Qualifying Examination and in February 1998, obtained a degree in biological science from the University of Studies of Milan, Milan, Italy. Currently, Sala is a Postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Neurobiology, Department of Surgery and Interdisciplinary Medicine, University of Milano Bicocca. The research activity of Dr. Sala has been focusing on the study of pathogenetic mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases (especially amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease). In particular, she has been studying the contribute of excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and, more recently, autophagic-lysosomal pathway in neuronal cell death using ex vivo peripheral cells from patients and in vitro models of diseases.
