Frederick P. Buttell

Frederick P. Buttell is a Professor of social work and serves as the Director of Wisner Center for Research on Children and Families. Buttell obtained his B.A. degree from Oglethorpe University, Atlanta, Ga, USA, and the Ph.D. degree from The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala, USA. Buttell has extensive experience in providing social work intervention services to clients in community-based correction programs and in evaluating the effectiveness of these social work interventions. He teaches courses in clinical practice, HBSE, and research methods. Buttell's latest research interests focus on improving family functioning through the elimination of domestic violence and his primary research interest is on improving the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs. He currently serves as the Program Director for a new, interdisciplinary, Ph.D. program at Tulane University in city, community, and culture (conferring degrees in social work, sociology, and urban studies).
