Hiroyuki Toh

Toh Hiroyuki was born in 1961. From 1979 to 1983, he was awarded a B.S. degree in biology from the Faculty of Science, Kyushu University. From 1983 to 1985, he was awarded the M.S. degree in biology for a thesis entitled "Sequence homologies of reverse transcriptase-containing viruses and transposable genetic elements and their functional and evolutionary implications" from the Department of Biology, Institute of Science, Kyushu University. From 1985 to 1989, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in biology for a thesis entitled "Computational approaches to the ribozyme system" from the Department of Biology, Institute of Science, Kyushu University. From 1989 to 1993, he served as Researcher at the 5th Department of Protein Engineering Research Institute. In addition, he served as a Research Director at the Department of Bioinformatics, Biomolecular Engineering Research Institute from 1999 till 2002. He served as a Professor at Toh Laboratory, Bioinfomatics Center, Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University from 2002 till 2005. Since 2010, he holds the position of a Deputy Director at the Computational Biology Research Center, Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. His research fields are molecular evolution, protein engineering.
