Stefania Grandi

National Research Council, Italy

Stefania Grandi received her degree in chemistry at the University of Milan in 1994, an M.S. degree in material science and technology at the University of Pavia in 2000 and a Ph.D. degree in chemical sciences at the University of Pavia in 2002. Dr. Grandi was employed (1995-1999) in the GDE company in Novara as Researcher in the field of the Sol-Gel technique: preparation and characterisation of polyoxidic materials based on silica. Dr. Grandi had a collaboration (1999-2000) with SIBA company in Novara about R&D of building products and ISO 9002 quality control. Since 2000, by means of Postdoctoral Fellowship and collaboration contracts, she researched at the University of Pavia (Department of physical chemistry) the synthesis by sol-gel method and characterisation of inorganic an hybrid organic-inorganic materials. Her scientific and research activities include synthesis by sol-gel method and characterization of (i) ceramics and glasses for optics and optoelectronics; (ii) hybrid organic-inorganic precursors and fillers for the preparations of polymers membranes for fuel cell technology; (iii) biogases. She employed characterisation techniques in her career including gas chromatography, UV/VIS spectrometry, IR/NIR spectroscopy, solution NMR spectroscopy, HPLC, X ray diffraction, dilatometry, microRaman, thermal analysis (TGA e DSC), porosimetry (BET), and picnometry (He). She is also an Inventor of one international patent: L.Costa, P.Costa, S.Grandi. Process for preparing silica or silica-based thick vitreous films according to the sol-gel technique and thick films thereby obtained, patent WO 00/14013 (2000) and Canadian patent no. 2343726 (2007).
