Jens Kreth was born in Bremen, Germany in 1972. He received his Diploma in biology and his Ph.D. degree in bacterial genetics from the University of Osnabrueck, Germany in 1999 and 2002. He did his postdoctoral training in oral microbiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry working on oral streptococci from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, Kreth was a Research Assistant in the Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, School of Dentistry. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Dentistry. His main interests are oral streptococci and their ecological relevance toward oral health as well as biofilm formation and the role of extracellular DNA in species diversity of the oral cavity.
