Guilherme de Alencar Barreto was born in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, in 1973. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Ceará in 1995, and both the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of São Paulo in 1998 and 2003, respectively. In 2000, he developed part of his Ph.D. studies at the Neuroinformatics Group of the Bielefeld University, Germany. He is in the organizing committee of the Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks (SBRN) and has been serving as a Reviewer for several neural network related journals (IEEE TNN, IEEE TSMC, IEEE TKDE, IEEE TSP, Neurocomputing, and IJCIA) and conferences (IJCNN, ICASSP, SBRN, among others). Currently, he is with the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering, Federal University of Ceará. His main research interests are self-organizing neural networks for signal and image processing, time series prediction, pattern recognition, and robotics.
