Subhash Challa serves as a Senior Principal Researcher and Professor at National ICT Australia (NICTA), VRL, at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where he leads a number of crossdiciplinary BIO-ICT research projects. He is also the cofounder and CTO of SenSen Networks Pty. Ltd., a Leading Provider of Networked Video Intelligence Solutions. He has extensive experience in R&D, product development and innovation management. He is a coauthor of the upcoming book Fundamental of Object Tracking by Cambridge University Press. His early education was in India where he received his B.S. degree in electrical and electronics engineering at the Jawharrlal Nehru Technological University, Kukatpalli, Hyderabad, India in 1993. He received his Ph.D. degree from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia in 1998. Part of his Ph.D. studies was undertaken as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Robotics Lab at Harvard University, Boston, USA. He joined Centre for Sensor, Signal and Information Processsing (CSSIP) at the University of Melbourne as a research fellow in 1998. He was a Tan Chin Tuan Exchange Fellow at Nanyang Technology University, Singapore in 2003. In 2004, he moved to University of Technology Sydney as the Professor of Computer Systems Engineering. In 2007, he cofounded SenSen Networks Pty. Ltd, a Leading Provider of Networked Video Intelligence Solutions. He also took up a new leadership role senior at NICTA, Victorian Research Labs, as a Principal Research Scientist and Research Group Manager in 2007. He mentored many doctoral students to completion in the areas of Bayesian Estimation Theory, object tracking, sensor networks, computer vision and data fusion. He was a Plenary, Keynote and Tutorial Speaker at a number of data fusion and sensor networks conferences including FUSION, ISSNIP, and IDC conferences.
