Fernando Perez-Ruiz

Fernando Perez-Ruiz was born in Baracaldo, Spain, in 1961. He got his M.D. qualification in The Basque Country University in 1985. After passing the Fellowship Examination Trial, he worked at Hospital Ramon y Cajal in Madrid and got the Rheumatology Board in 1991. Actually, he is a Senior Rheumatologist at the Rheumatology Division at Hospital Universitario Cruces (Chief, Dr. A. Alonso-Ruiz), where he worked from 1991 to date. Although firstly involved with clinical investigation in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia, in the last 15 years Perez-Ruiz has focused on, and is devoted to, crystal-induced arthritis, and most especially gout. He got his Ph.D. qualification in Barcelona University (Director, Dr. J. M. Nolla) with studies of classification and urate lowering therapy in gout. As the first author, he has presented over 100 scientific communications, over 50 lectures, and has also authored or coauthored over 100 papers and book chapters, most of them involving clinical investigation and reviews in gout or pyrophosphate arthritis. Perez-Ruiz is an Active Member of the Spanish Society for Rheumatology (Chair of the Spanish Group for Investigation of Crystal-Induced Arthritis), International Member of the American College of Rheumatology, and a Member of the Editorial Committee of Arthritis Care and Research, Bone Joint Spine, Seminarios de la Fundación Española de ReumatologÍa, and ReumatologÍa ClÍnica. Perez-Ruiz is also an invited reviewer for over twenty international journals.
