Doctor in Physics in 1994 at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (fis.puc-rio.br), in Brazil. Since 1994, Associate Professor of Universidade Federal Fluminense (if.uff.br), in Niteroi, Brazil. Since 1995, research fellow of the Brazilian Council for Scientific Research (cnpq.br), with current level 1C. Since 2001, visited for several periods the Department of Theoretical Physics of Oxford University and the Laboratoire d'Electrochimie et de Chimie Analytique of Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, and took a sabbatical leave in 2008-2009 at the Chemistry Department of University of Wisconsin - Madison. Current research involves application of equilibrium and (mainly) non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics to physical and physico-chemical systems at surfaces and interfaces. Problems of interest are thin film and multilayer growth, submonolayer dynamics, corrosion and passivation, reaction-diffucion processes in disordered media (with a connection to catalysis), aggregate and nanoparticle growth and coarsening. Formerly, main interests were disordered magnetism and critical phenomena in fractals.
