Ayako Oyane is a Senior Researcher at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. She received a Doctoral degree in engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, in 2002 for a thesis entitled, “Preparation of nanoapatite-polymer fiber composites by a biomimetic process.” She joined AIST as a Researcher in 2002 and was promoted to a Senior Researcher in 2009. She is an active member of several academic associations, including the Ceramic Society of Japan, the Japanese Society for Biomaterials, and others. Her research interests focus on biomimetic processes for fabrication of calcium phosphate coatings and calcium phosphate-based nanocomposites with drug and gene delivery functions for biomedical applications. To date, Dr. Oyane has published more than 70 articles in prestigious scientific journals and has participated in editing several academic books. She has also been involved in organizing several scientific gatherings. Her scientific achievements have been distinguished by awards for young scientists from the Ceramic Society of Japan (2009) and the Japanese Society for Biomaterials (2010).
