Prof. Sophia G. Antimisiaris studied Pharmacy in the University of Athens, Greece and received an M.Pharm degree in 1984 and a Ph.D. in Biopharmaceutics in 1988. After working as a post-doc and research assistant in the School of Pharmacy, University of South California, L.A. USA [1989, 1990] she has been working in the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology, Dept of Pharmacy, University of Patras, Greece, initially as a Lecturer (from 1989), and then Assistant & Associate Professor. From 2009, she is a tenured full Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and the Director of the same laboratory from 2002. In 1992-1993 being on sabbatical leave from the University of Patras, she worked in the Centre for Drug Delivery Research (CDDR) of the School of Pharmacy, University of London, U.K. From 2007, she is a collaborating member of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (ICE-HT) of FORTH (Foundation of Research and Technology, Hellas); the largest research Institute of Greece. She has directed 5 Ph.D. students, 12 MSc students and more than 40 pharmacy diploma theses. She has participated as coordinator or partner in more than 12 National, or European (FP6 and FP7) funded research projects and is the author of more than 70 peer reviewed research papers or scientific book chapters. She is an inventor of 3 patents (1 International and 2 Greek). She has been a reviewer for more than 15 pharmaceutical or relevant-discipline peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of AAPS, ILS, and CRS. Her research interests are in the area of controlled and/or targeted drug delivery systems and Nanomedicines, and her expertise is in the technology of liposomal drug formulations.
