Evangelos G. Giakoumis

Evangelos G. Giakoumis was born in Greece in 1968. He received his Dipl.Ing. degree from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, in 1992, and his Ph.D. degree from the same university in 1998; his Ph.D. thesis was entitled ?Transient operation of diesel engines.? He has worked for 6 years (1999?2004) as an Area Manager at the After-Sales Department of the Peugeot Automobiles Distributor in Greece, before being elected as a Lecturer at the NTUA in November 2004. On February 1, 2010, he was elected as an Assistant Professor at the same University. He is the author of the monograph Diesel Engine Transient Operation published by Springer-Verlag, London, 2009. In 2007, he received the SAE Engineering Meetings Board Outstanding Oral Presentation Award for the presentation of SAE paper at the annual SAE World Congress, Detrot, Mi. He is an SAE Full Member, has served as the (co)chairman in various international conferences, and is the author of more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences. He has guest-edited two special issues for the International Journal of Vehicle Design in 2007 and 2009 and is currently responsible for another special issue for the Proceeding of the IMechE, Part D, Journal of Automobile Engineering. His main scientific interests are combustion, performance, and emissions during transient diesel engine operation, study of transient cycles, second-law analysis of internal combustion engines, and use of biofuels in engines.
