Piotr Lewczuk is the Head of the Laboratory for Clinical Neurochemistry and Neurochemical Dementia Diagnostics at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Universitätsklinikum, Erlangen, Germany. For almost 15 years Dr. Lewczuk has been working on diagnostic and research aspects of cerebrospinal fluid analysis, including a broad range of neurologic and psychiatric disorders (multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammations, acute and chronic neuroinfections, stroke, etc.), with particular focus on neurodegenerating conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease. In 2004, he obtained the Certificate of Expertise from the German Society of Clinical Neurochemistry, and currently he is a Member of the Extended Board of this society. Dr. Lewczuk is also a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Alzheimer Diagnostic and Therapy Center at the Medical University of Wroclaw in Scinawa, Poland, and a consultant of a worldwide leading diagnostic biotech company Innogenetics (Ghent, Belgium). Recently, Dr. Lewczuk joined the Editorial Board of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease as an Associate Editor, and in 2010 he was awarded the prestigious German prize for Hirnforschung in der Geriatrie. Dr. Lewczuk is interested in biomarkers discovery, validation, and transfer into the routine analytical programs. Furthermore, Dr. Lewczuk works on application of multiplexing technologies for clinical routine and research projects, as well as standardization, quality control, and transnational promotion of NDD methods and protocols.
