Cristoforo Comi received his M.D. degree from the University of Milan, Milan, Italy, board certification in neurology, and Ph.D. degree in molecular medicine from the University of Eastern Piedmont. He is an Assistant Professor of neurology and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurology at the University of Eastern Piedmont, Novara, Italy. His area of expertise includes the molecular bases of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory neuropathies). His main research achievements are regarding the role of T-cell apoptosis in neuroinflammatory diseases and the study of proinflammatory genes and cytokines in neurodegenerative diseases. Current studies are concerned with the role of immunity and inflammation in chronic neurodegeneration, with a special focus on identifying biomarkers of disease progression. Comi serves as a reviewer for several international indexed scientific journals (including Annals of Neurology, Neurology, and Archives of Neurology), as well as for national and international public and private funding agencies.
