Somchai Thongtem

Somchai Thongtem has received degrees in physics: a B.S. degree (Silver Medal) from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and M.S. degree from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. He continued his studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, and he has received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in metallurgical engineering. He serves as a Professor of materials science at Chiang Mai University, where he has been taught. His research activities are preparation and characterization of micro- and nanostructured materials, relating to luminescence and thermoelectric properties, solar cells, and gas sensors, including surface modification of metals. He has been invited to be an External Examiner of Anna University, Chennai, India, a Distinguished Speaker of the 2nd International Symposium on Creation of Hybridized Materials with Super-Functions and Formation of International Research & Education Center, 19–21 January 2004, Nagaoka, Japan, International Advisory Committee of Materials Science Forum and the 7th–11th International Symposium on Eco-Materials Processing and Design (ISEPD, 2006–2010), Local Chair of the ISEPD2011, Chiang Mai, Thailand, International Board of the 2nd International Symposium on Hybrid Materials and Processing (HyMaP2011), October 27–29, 2011, Busan, Korea, International Advisory Board of the 3rd International Congress on Ceramics (ICC3), November 14–18, 2010, Osaka, Japan, and the 3rd Asia-Oceania Ceramic Federation (AOCF-3) Conference, September 21–25, 2008, Yunnan, China, and a Committee Member of the 16th International Conference on Composites/Nanoengineering (ICCE-16), July 20–26, 2008, China. In addition, he has been invited to review the manuscripts submitted for publication in several international journals.
