Bas Van Breukelen

Utrecht University, The Netherlands 0000-0001-9514-9876

Bas van Breukelen joined the Department of Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Group of professor A.J.R Heck in March 2003. Breukelen received a Ph.D. degree at the Utrecht Medical Centre in 2003 on the subject of the adenovirus DNA replication and recombination. After receiving the Ph.D. degree, Breukelen has worked at the Department of Biology where he developed a LIMS and pipeline for (statistical) analysis of microarray data. As of 2005, Breukelen switched positions to work at the Beta Faculty, Department of Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and the Netherlands Proteomics Centre (NPC), where he is currently leading a bioinformatics group. Since 2006, he is also Project Leader of the Dutch Bioinformatics for Proteomics Task Force for the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre (NBIC.nl). His main research topics are (pre)processing of proteomics data originating from mass spectrometry experiments, better (noise) filters, de novo sequencing algorithms, data storage and annotation, development of a proteomics pipeline (together with the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre (NBIC), www.nbic.nl), quantitative proteomics, 2D LC-MSMS data analysis, statistical analysis, data warehousing and mining tools, integration of proteomics data with other -omics data, and ad Hoc bioinformatics
