Vanderlei Bagnato

Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato recieved his Ph.D. from MIT (1987). He has double major in material science engineering (Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil, 1981) and physics (Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, 1981). He received the titles of “Livre-Docente” and Full Professor by University of São Paulo (resp. 1989, 1993). He has activities based on laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms and applications of optics and laser in medicine. Among many activities, he pursued a pioneering work in the field of atomic and molecular physics with worldwide recognition. Recently, the laboratory under his guidance has achieved Bose-Einstein Condensation initiating a pioneering work with quantum macroscopic matter.
