Ion Vasile Vancea
Ion Vasile Vancea was born in Sighetul Marmatiei, Romania, in 1967. He got the B.S. degree in physics from Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Atomic Physics, presently the National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering “Horia Hulubei,” Bucharest, Romania, in 1998. From 1992 to 1995, he worked as a Researcher at the Institute of Izotopic and Molecular Technology, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and from 1993 to 1997, he served as an Assistant, and from 1997 to 2001, he worked as a Lecturer of the Faculty of Physics of Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. From 1998 to 1999, Vancea was a Postdoc at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Moreover, from 1999 to 2002, he was a Postdoc at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of State University of São Paulo, IFT-UNESP, Brazil. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Postdoc at the University of São Paulo, USP, Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. Since 2004, he works as an Adjunct Professor at Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), Seropédica, Brazil. His main interests are string theory and D-branes, quantum gravity, and structure of spacetime at the Planck scale.
