Curtis N. Sessler
Curtis N. Sessler, a holder of M.D. degree and an FCCP and FCCM, is the Orhan Muren Professor of Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System where he is a Medical Director of the Medical Respiratory ICU, Medical Director of Critical Care, and Director of the Center for Adult Critical Care. His research interests include ICU sedation and analgesia, prevention of nosocomial infection, ARDS, and mechanical ventilation. Dr. Sessler led a group that developed the Richmond agitation sedation scale (RASS) for assessing sedation in the ICU. He is a member of a number of editorial boards and Past Chair of the FDA Pulmonary and Allergy Drug Advisory Committee and many national working groups and task forces, including the SCCM Taskforce on Pain, Agitation, and Delirium in the ICU, and the Quad Society Task Force on Critical Care Research. Dr. Sessler is an enthusiastic proponent of collaboration, multiprofessional practice, and patient-focused care.
