Heinz Hofler

Heinz Hofler was born in 7 January 1949 in Fürstenfeld (Steiermark, Austria), and from 1967 to 1974, he studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Karl Franzens University, Graz. In 1974, he served as a University Assistant at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute of the University of Graz; in 1981, he had a specialist acknowledgment and Habilitation for the subject pathological anatomy and histology at the same faculty; in 1987, he had an appointment as the Extraordinary University Professor for pathology by the Federal President after resolution by the same faculty and the Federal Ministry for Instruction and Research (§ 31 UOG); in 1988, he had a call on the permanent postuniversity professor for general pathology and pathological anatomy of the Technical University of Munich; in 1988, he had a call on the Chair for Clinical Pathology of the University of Zurich, starting from April 1, 1989, as a Director of the Institute for General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy of the TUM and Director of the Institute for Pathology of the Society for Radiating and Environmental Research Ltd., Munich. He also had several Prizes including 1986, 1988, and 1991: Top price for medicine; 1987: Sandoz prize for medicine; 1990: A. Wewalka Wewalka-Preis of the Austrian society for Gastroenterologie; 1997: Roll of Honor of the international union against CAN cerium (UICC); 1998: Alexis Carrel prize for container surgery; 1999: Member of the academy of German natural scientists, Leopoldina.
