David Gardiner uses the Mexican axolotl regeneration model to understand the mechanisms controlling dedifferentiation and blastema formation during limb regeneration. His lab focuses on developing gain-of-function assays for the signals that regulate the early steps of the regeneration cascade in order to gain insights into novel therapies for inducing a regenerative response to injuries in humans.
