Henry Biemann Othersen
Henry Biemann Othersen is a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), SC, USA, has completed his postgraduate training in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and pediatric surgery, and is board-certified in each of those specialties. He has been practicing pediatric surgery at MUSC since 1965 where he is a Professor of surgery and pediatrics and the Emeritus Chief of pediatric surgery at the Children’s Hospital. He published and presented extensively on surgical problems in children with special emphasis on tracheal and esophageal abnormalities. Moreover, he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society as a student and was a Councilor for 15 years. He also served a term as the President of the American Pediatric Surgical Association. Upon retirement, he was given, by the Governor of South Carolina, the Order of the Palmetto. Currently, he continues his interest in teaching and advising premedical and medical students, in holding conferences with the surgical and pediatric house officers, and in studying children’s issues and with medical history.
