Robert A. Patzner
University of Salzburg, Austria

Robert A. Patzner is a Professor of zoology and marine biology at the University of Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria. He studied zoology and botany in Vienna and Salzburg and finished with a thesis on the reproduction of Myxine glutinosa (Cyclostomata) in 1973. During his studies, he spent nearly one year at the Marine Biological Station at DrØbak, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway. As a Postdoctorate Fellow, Patzner continued the research on the reproduction of Cyclostomata and spent one year at the Marine Biological Station at Misaki, University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, from 1975 to 1976. In 1982, he made his habilitation at the University of Salzburg, Venia legendi, in zoology and marine biology. Since 1983, Patzner is a Regularly Assistant Professor and lecturer at the University of Salzburg. His research work focused on the reproduction of blennies (Blenniidae). These several short stays at different marine stations in the Mediterranean Sea have been necessary. From around 1990, beside his marine biological studies, he worked also in limnology: ecology of small benthic fishes (Gobiidae, Blenniidae, Gobiesocidae) mainly in the Mediterranean Sea and association of sea anemones with other organisms. Dr. Patzner published more than 400 papers in scientific and popular scientific journals as well as several books. He is the first Editor of The Biology of Blennies which will appear at the end of 2008.
