Franca Castiglione received his degree in chemistry from the University of Calabria, Calabria, Italy, in 1995. He served as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Southampton, Southampton, UK (1997-1998). Castiglione acquired his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Calabria, Calabria, Italy, in 1999. From 1999 to 2001, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, Calif, USA. From 2001 to 2007, he served as a Senior research Chemist-Responsible at NMR Laboratory in the Analytical Science Group at Biosearch Italia SPA and Vicuron Pharmaceuticals INC, Italy. From 2007, Castiglione has been serving as a Researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Politecnico di Milano, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, Italy. His research interests include biochemistry, structure elucidation of novel natural product drug molecules using bidimensional NMR spectroscopy; study of drug-ligand interactions and binding sites; oriented systems, study of the conformation and local order of new liquid crystals, hydrogels, and ionic liquids systems and determination of the transport properties of small molecules dissolved in oriented matrices; quantum mechanics, ab initio and DFT (density functional theory) calculation of the minimum-energy conformation of supramolecular aggregates.
