Evangelos Manias works as a Professor of material science and engineering at Penn State University. He received the B.S. degree in physics from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, and the Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research in Cornell, before joining Penn State University as a Faculty in the fields of material science and engineering in 1998. He served for 4 years as the Head of the Polymer Science and Engineering Program in Penn State University, and he serves as the Director of the Polymer Nanostructures Laboratory CSPS Penn State Center of Excellence since 2000. He won several notable professional distinctions and awards. His research combines simulation and experimental approaches focused on explaining how nanoscale structures and intermolecular interactions affect the macroscopic materials properties in multiphase polymer systems. This fundamental understanding is further employed in the design of appropriate nanostructures and functionalities that lead to high-performance novel materials and nanocomposites.
