Rute F. Domingos was born on October 1979 in Portugal. She had completed the B.S. degree in chemistry in 2001 at the University of Algarve, Portugal. Afterwards, she had proceeded to a Ph.D. Program concluding the doctorate in chemistry, specialty of environmental physical chemistry, at the University of Algarve, Portugal, in 2006. The theme of the thesis was trace metal speciation using thin layer separation techniques and stripping chronopotentiometry. After her study on evaluation of the transport, fate and bioavailability of mineral-based nanoparticles under environmentally relevant conditions in University of Montreal, Canada, as a post doctorate, she joined the Centro de Quimica Estrutural in Instituto Superior Tecnico (Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal) in 2009 as an Assistant Researcher. There, she had opened two new research lines on metallic nanoparticles in the environment - aggregation, dissolution, dynamic speciation and toxicology, and development of tools for the evaluation of metals bioavailability in aquatic systems - electroanalytical techniques and Donnan membrane technique.
