Mat U. Wahit
Mat U. Wahit was born on January 2, 1970 in Batu Pahat, Johor. He graduated in polymer technology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang in 1994. He obtained his M.S. degree in polymer composites in 1999 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor (UTM). Prior to his appointment as a Lecturer at Polymer Engineering Department, UTM in 1999, he was a Process Engineer at Philips Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd, Senai, Johor, Malaysia from 1994 to 1997. In 2001, he received a fellowship from the Government of Japan to embark on a study tour in Japan for four months. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. degree in polymer nanocomposites from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has been awarded a postdoctorate merit scholarship by Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, KSA, and undertook postdoctoral study at Monash University, Vic, Australia (December 2008–May 2009). Dr. Wahit's research interests pertain to advanced materials, natural fibre composite materials, rubber-toughened polymers, and polymer nanocomposites. Polymer nanocomposite is recognized as one of the promising polymeric material technology developments of the 21st century. He is also a Lecturer in the subjects of material science, polymer properties, and polymer composites and an organizer and a participant in a number of short courses and seminars. Moreover, Dr. Wahit has published more than 40 research papers and conference proceedings on rubber toughened polymer, polymer blends, and polymer nanocomposites. He is a Member of Plastics and Rubber Institute of Malaysia (PRIM) and holds the post of Secretary for PRIM-southern section since 2002 and more recently, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the electronic Malaysian Polymer Journal.
