Charles M. Lukehart
Vanderbilt University, USA
Charles M. Lukehart received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1968, and his Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (with F. Albert Cotton) in 1972. He served as a Postdoctoral Associate from 1972 to 1973 at Texas A&M University (with F. Albert Cotton). Dr. Lukehart is currently a Professor of chemistry at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn, USA. He held some academic positions as an Assistant Professor during 1973–77, an Associate Professor during 1977–82, and a Professor from 1982 to present at Vanderbilt University. He was awarded an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in 1979 and a Honda Initiation Grant Award in 2004. He was elected Chairman of the Nashville Section of the American Chemical Society for the years 1979 and 1992. Dr. Lukehart has served as a Coeditor for the Journal of Cluster Science (Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers, 1998); a Managing Coeditor for the Journal of Cluster Science (Springer, 1998–present). He also served as a Subject Editor for Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry, Second Edition (John Wiley & Sons Ltd., 2005) in which he contributed one article entitled “Organometallic chemistry; catalysis, solid state chemistry, materials and nanomaterials” and as an Organometallics Editor for Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry (John Wiley & Sons Ltd., 1994). He is the author of a textbook titled Fundamental Transition Metal Organometallic Chemistry (Brooks/Cole Publishing Company, Wardsworth, 1985). His research interests include nanoparticle synthesis using organometallic complexes as single-source precursors of binary or ternary metal alloy, intermetallic, or interstitial compositions; synthesis of fuel cell catalysts, sol-gel ceramics, carbon nanofiber and nanodiamond materials including carbon nanofiber/alkali metal intercalates, carbon nanofiber/carbon felt mats, carbon nanofiber/carbon paper mats, polymer brushes and polymer nanocomposites.
