Johann Pratschke studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich 1987 and earned a full license to practice medicine at 1995. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in allogeneic retransplantation for xenogeneic bridging from Institute for Surgical Research, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in 1997. From 1997 to 1999, he spent a research stay at the Surgical Research Laboratory, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Brigham and Women's Hospital's Department of Surgery. He became a Board Certified Surgeon in 2002 and a Senior Physician at the Department of General, Visceral, and Transplantation Surgery, Charité, in 2003. In 2009, he became a Professional Surgeon. He was awarded the Langenbeck Prize of the German Society of Surgery in 2008. He got Genzyme 2009 Research Prize of the German Transplantation Society. His research areas include oncological surgery, transplant surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.
