Per Olof Westlund

Umeå universitet, Sweden

Per Olof Westlund was born in Östersund, Jämtland, Sweden, in 1952. He received the Ph.D. degree in theoretical physical chemistry from the Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden, in 1985. In 1985-1986, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Theoretical Chemistry, Cambridge, UK. From 1988 to 2000, Westlund was a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Physical Chemistry, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden. Since 2000 he has been a Professor in theoretical chemistry at the Umeå University. He is mainly interested in relaxation theory based on the stochastic Liouville equation (SLE). The application of SLE includes the following fields: the description of water proton spin-lattice relaxation in paramagnetic systems, NMR relaxation in slow tumbling systems and in the low field limit of NMRD experiments, and energy migration between reorienting chromophores studied in time-resolved fluorescence.
