Andrea Cusano received his M.S. degree cum laude in electronic engineering on November 27, 1998, from University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and his Ph.D. degree in information engineering from the same university. In December 2002, he was nominated Permanent Researcher at the Engineering Department of University of Sannio, starting his activity on December 30, 2002, in the Optoelectronic Division. Since 1999, his activity has focused on the field of optoelectronic devices for sensing and telecommunication applications. He is coauthor of over 65 articles published on several high level international journals, and of over 100 communications to international conferences. He is also coauthor of 4 chapters in international books. Also he is working as coeditor for the publication of two Special Issues focused on optical fiber sensors: the first will be published by IEEE Sensors Journal and the second one will be published in Current Analytical Chemistry (a Bentham publications). He is coauthor of 4 national patents regarding the development of innovative fiber optic sensors. He is also cofounder of the spin-off society (OptoSmart S.r.l), whose core business is the developing of fiber optic devices for the structural and environmental monitoring. In 2006, he won a national competition for the position of Associate Professor and actually he is waiting for the call in service. He acts also as referee of several high level international journals, such as IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Sensors Journal, Optical Engineering, IEEE Transaction on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, Sensors and Actuators A and B, Optics Express, Optics Communications, Sensors. He is also an Associate Editor of Sensors and Transducers Journal.
