Sarp Adali

Sarp Adali is the Sugar Millers Professor of Mechanical Design and the Director of the Center of Composite and Smart Materials at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He received his Ph.D. degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from Cornell University, NY, USA. Prior to his present appointment, he was a Senior Researcher at the National Research Institute of Mathematical Sciences of South Africa. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara, USA, and Pierre and Marie Curie University, France, on several occasions. He is a Fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa. His main research interests include optimal control, piezoelectric control, optimal design, composite structures, and nanomechanics. He published over 150 journal papers in these areas.
