Joseph Brent Muhlestein

Joseph Brent Muhlestein is the Director of Cardiology Research at Intermountain Medical Center and a Professor of Medicine at University of Utah. He is also an Honorary Professor of Medicine at Xian Medical University, China. Dr. Muhlestein received his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University in 1980 and his M.D. degree from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah in 1984. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Duke University from 1991 to 1992 and then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Muhlestein has published many articles in medical journals, such as Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, and American Journal of Cardiology. He has written book chapters for Raven Press, Churchill Livingston Inc., Blackwell Publishing, and received numerous grant awards. His research interests include new interventional technologies, cardiovascular clinical outcomes, and evaluation of possible underlying causes of novel risk factors associated with the development and progression of atherosclerosis.
