Benedetta Bussolati obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Torino, Italy, and her Ph.D. degree in physiopathology of the renal insufficiency from the University of Parma, Italy. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor of nephrology at the University of Torino, Molecular Biotechnology Center. She first identified in the human adult kidney a population of CD133+ resident progenitor cells and characterized tumor stem cells in renal carcinomas. Her main scientific interests are focused on renal regeneration using stem cells or derived bioproducts such as exosomes as well as on tumor stem cells and tumor vasculogenesis.
