Benjamin Piura, Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, UK, and a holder of an M.D. degree, is an emeritus Full-Time Professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel, and is the former Head of the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at the Soroka University Medical Center, Beer-Sheva, Israel. He obtained his M.D. degree in 1969 from the Faculty of Medicine of Hadassah and the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. Subsequently, he was trained in obstetrics and gynecology and then gynecologic oncology and cancer research at the Soroka University Medical Center, Beer-Sheva, Israel, at the Hillingdon Hospital, London, UK, at the Northern Gynecological Oncology Center, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, UK, and at the Cancer Research Unit, the Medical School of the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. He (co)authors over 200 articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is interested in all aspects of gynecologic oncology including clinical and basic science research. His areas of expertise include ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, uterine cervix cancer, vulvar cancer, fallopian tube cancer, vaginal cancer, trophoblastic diseases, breast cancer, and autoantibodies to tumor-associated antigens. He serves as a Reviewer for numerous scientific medical journals and belongs to the editorial boards of the European Journal of Gynecological Oncology, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, and Case Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
