Abbes Amira
Abbes Amira works as a Reader in embedded computing systems in the School of Engineering at the University of Ulster, UK. From May 2006 to March 2010, he served as a senior Lecturer at Brunel University, London, UK within the Division of Electronic and Computer Engineering. Before he joined Brunel University, he has held a Lectureship in computer science at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), UK since November 2001. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from Queen’s University Belfast in 2001. He has been awarded a number of grants from government and industry and has published over 150 publications during his career to date. He has been invited to give talks and tutorials at universities and international conferences and was chair of program committee for a number of conferences (Conference Chair of ECV2011, Conference Tracks Chair ISCE 2011, Program Chair of ECVW2010, and Program Cochair of DELTA 2008 and IMVIP 2005). He was one of the tutorials presenters at ICIP 2009. He is also one of the 2008 VARIAN prize recipients. He is a senior Member of the IEEE, senior Member of ACM, Member of IET, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research interests include embedded systems, high-performance reconfigurable computing, image processing, multiresolution analysis, medical applications, and biometrics.
