Mario Grifantini is a Full Professor of medicinal chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Camerino University. He works as a Chairman of the Department of Chemical Sciences of the same university from 1982 to 1987. Between 1988 and 2004, he held the position of the Dean at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Professor Grifantini is member of several national and international scientific societies and of the Editorial Board of Medicinal Chemistry Review–Online, Current Medicinal Chemistry–Anti Allergy & Anti-Inflammatory Agents, and The Open Natural Products Journal. He also served as a Peer Reviewer for many scientific journals (Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry, ChemMedChem, Cancer Letters, Current Cancer Drug Targets, European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Nucleosides & Nucleotides & Nucleic Acids, Antiviral Research). Professor Grifantini coordinates a research team in the Department of Chemical Sciences at the Camerino University. He has been national scientific coordinator of several research projects on antitumor agents granted by Italian Ministry of University and Scientific Research. Its scientific interest is addressed to the design, synthesis, structure determination, and development of chemotherapic agents. The research topics include: (1) nucleosides, nucleotides, and prodrugs as antitumor and antiviral agents; (2) inhibitors of the inosine 5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase and ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase, as new antitumor drugs; (3) selective agonists and antagonists of the adenosine receptors as potential drugs. Its scientific production is reported in 135 publications in leading international journals and in two patents.
