Dirk M. Hermann

Dirk M. Hermann was born in Gießen, Germany, in 1968. He received his medical degree and M.D. degree from the University of Gießen, Germany, in 1994 and 1995, respectively. Since then, Hermann was with the Max Plack Institute of Psychiatry (Munich, Germany) and Max Plack Institute for Neurological Research (Cologne, Germany). In 1998, he entered the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Tübingen (Germany), specializing as a clinical neurologist in 2001. Following his state doctorate in 2002, he became a consultant neurologist (Oberarzt) at the University Hospital Zurich (Switzerland), where he also led a research group at the Swiss National Center of Competence (NCCR), Neural Plasticity and Repair. Since 2008, Hermann has been a Full Professor of neurology at the University Hospital Essen. His major fields are stroke and dementia. In 2005, he was a recipient of the Baasch Medicus Award and in 2007 of the Ellermann Award of the Swiss Neurological Society. He is the author of more than 100 publications in international scientific journals.
