0000-0002-3477-4544Osvaldo Ferrarese-Filho was born in Guaraçaí, Brazil, in 1955. He received the Master degree and the Ph.D. degree, in Biochemistry, from the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Since 1996, he is Head of Laboratory of Plant Biochemistry, Department of Biochemistry (DBQ), University of Maringá (UEM), Brazil. Since 2001, he is researcher of Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Developmental (CNPq). From 2006 to 2010, he was Head of Pos-Graduate Program (Biological Sciences), UEM, Brazil. He is referee of several journals such as Journal of Plant Physiology, Journal of Chemical Ecology, Environmental and Experimental Botany, Allelopathy Journal, Water, Air and Soil Polution, Scientia Horticulturae, Plant and Soil, Journal of Plant Breeding and Crop Science, Plant Science, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry and Chemosphere. He is mainly interested in characterizing the biochemical and physiological mechanisms by which allelopathic compounds affects root growth of soybean and maize. For this, he evaluates the effects of several allelochemicals on enzymes of the phenylpropanoid pathway and the monomeric composition of lignin. Additionally, he is also interested in bioethanol from lignocelluloses.
