Xincheng Yao, PhD is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Vision Sciences with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Dr. Yao received his B.S. and M.S. in Optical Instrumentation from the Harbin Institute of Technology in 1996 and 1998, and was awarded his PhD in Optics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. He worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2001-2004) and Technical Staff Member (2004-2006), and served CFD Research Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist (2006-2007). In 2007, he joined the faculty of University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Yao’s research interests include biomedical optics instrumentation, functional imaging of the retina, and experimental biophysics of pancreatic islet. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER award and multiple grants from the NIH, DANA foundation, Eyesight Foundation of Alabama, and UASOM Interdisciplinary Institute for Imaging. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, and also given multiple invited talks and seminars in conferences, universities and research institutes in USA, Canada and China. He has served as Editorial Board Member for Quantitative Imaging in Medicine and Surgery (2013- ) and World Journal of Ophthalmology (2011- ), as well as peer-referee for Applied Optics, Optics Letters, Optics Express, Optical Engineering, Optical Communications, Journal of Modern Optics, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Biomedical Optics Expresses, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, PLoS One, etc.
