Virginia Calder

Virginia Calder holds a B.S. degree (honors) in immunology and a Ph.D. degree. Currently, she is a Lecturer in immunology at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, London, UK. Her research has focused around the fundamental mechanisms underlying inflammatory eye diseases, including allergic conjunctivitis and uveitis. She is a T cell-immunologist with extensive experience of cytokine profiles, expanding T cells from minute ocular specimens and investigating their interactions with tissue-resident cells such as mast cells, epithelial cells, and neutrophils. The anti-inflammatory effects of various antiallergic drugs and statins have also been investigated both in vitro and in vivo in patients and in experimental models where possible.
