Paul H. Wine

Georgia Institute of Technology, USA

Paul H. Wine received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1968 and a Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Florida State University in 1974. From 1974 to 1977, he did postdoctoral research at the University of Texas at Dallas and Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). From 1977 to 1992, he was a member of the research staff at GTRI, rising to the rank of Principal Research Scientist in 1986. He was Head of the Physical and Atmospheric Chemistry Branch of GTRI from 1987 to 1992. In 1992, he assumed his current position as a Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he is jointly appointed in the Schools of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Dr. Wine’s research interests have included atmospheric chemical kinetics and photochemistry in the gas and condensed phases, combustion chemistry, reaction dynamics, free radical thermochemistry, free radical spectroscopy, and energy transfer. He has authored over 140 journal articles and book chapters on these topics. From 1994 to 1996, he served on the editorial advisory board of the International Journal of Chemical Kinetics, and he has served as a Senior Editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry since 1994. He chaired the 20th Informal Conference on Photochemistry in 1992, the Gordon Conference on Atmospheric Chemistry in 1997, and the physical chemistry program at the joint SE/SW regional meeting of the American Chemical Society in 2000. In 1998 and 1999, he chaired the National Academy of Sciences Panel on Atmospheric Effects of Aviation. Since 2003, he has been a member of the NASA panel for evaluation of chemical kinetics and photochemical data for use in atmospheric studies.
