Paolo Emilio Puddu was born on October 7, 1952, Rome. He holds the following degrees: an M.D. degree in medicine, University of Rome "La Sapienza," Rome, Italy (1976 cum laude); Postdoc Board of cardiology, University "La Sapienza" (1979 cum laude); Postdoc Certificate of hemodynamics, University of Montreal, Montreal, QC, Canada (1980); Postdoc Certificate of experimental surgery, University of Marseilles, France (1985); a Ph.D. degree, University of Caen, France (2010 cum laude); HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) in fundamental sciences, University of Caen (2011). During his academic tenure, Puddu holds the following positions: Head Laboratory of Biotechnologies Applied to Cardiovascular Medicine (1992–2000; 2002–present), Department of Cardiac Surgery, University "La Sapienza"; Aggregate Professor of Cardiology (1996–2000; 2002–present), School of Infirmary Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University "La Sapienza"; Invited Full Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology (April 2003, May 2005, April 2008, March 2010, March 2011), University "La Sapienza" and University of Basse Normandie. His research interests include clinical cardiology: coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and sudden death: prediction and prevention; experimental cardiology: animal models of ischemic ventricular fibrillation; cardiovascular epidemiology: electrocardiographic predictors of hypertrophy and sudden death; coronary and cardiovascular risk; prediction of survival; cardiovascular pharmacology and clinical trials: drug prevention of experimental ventricular fibrillation, drug treatment of hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy and congestive heart failure, drugs in acute and chronic ischemic syndromes; in vitro electrophysiology: physiology and pharmacology of hypoxia-related contractility dysfunction. His publications include over 180 papers with overall impact factor > 300; h-index = 20; g-index = 38; e-index = 29,14; total citations: 2700; 3 books (of which 1 as coeditor).
