Josef Elster has the Ph.D. degree. He works as an Associate Professor in the Centre for Polar Ecology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, Branišovská 31, 370 05 Ceské Budejovice and Academy of Sciences of the CR, Institute of Botany, Phycology Centrum, Dukelská 135, 379 82 Trebon, Czech Republic. He is a Specialist in ecology and ecophysiology of cyanobacteria and algae in low temperature and polar environment. In addition, he is a Member of 21 polar expeditions (the Antarctic – South Shetlands, Antarctic peninsula, James Ross Island, the Arctic – Ellesmere Island, Svalbard, and Abisko). Elster is a Participant in 25 domestic and/or international projects, and in several ones, he is the Leader of the project; three postdoctoral fellows, five Ph.D. students (up to now two defended), five M.S. students (all defended), and three Bachelor students (all defended). Lecturing two courses in the University of South Bohemia, Ceské Budejovice, one in Masaryk University, Brno and Charles’ University, Prague. He wrote 56 papers in scientific journals (with IF) or in international books and 1 international book editing, all together more than 100 papers.
