Hugo Cerecetto was born in Dolores, Uruguay, in 1962. He received the Chemical Pharmacist degree from Universidad de la República-Uruguay (UdelaR) and the Ph.D. degree (cum laude) from Universidad de Navarra, Spain, in 1988 and 1994, respectively. Since 1987, H. Cerecetto is with School of Chemistry of UdelaR. In 1996 and 1999, he was a posdoctoral research at the Universidad de Chile and Universidad Pública de Navarra, respectively. Currently, he is a Professor of Organic Chemistry (UdelaR). From 2007 to 2010 he coordinated the Red Iberoamericana de Investigación, Desarrollo, e Innovación de Medicamentos Anti-Chagas from CYTED. He is an ARKIVOC editorial board of referees, and a Mini-Review in Medicinal Chemistry editorial advisory board. He is mainly interested in research and development (R & D) of new anti-T. cruzi agents as potential anti-Chagas drugs, R & D of new bioreductive agents, R & D of new agents for aging diseases, and R & D of new metalo-complexes as therapeutic agents.
